IPCV'02

Intensive Programme on Computer Vision

The
* Laboratoire LIGIV (Lab. d'Informatique Graphique et d'Ingénierie de la Vision) EA 3070 (http://www.ligiv.org) of the University of Saint-Etienne, France, the
* Department of Computer Science of the University of Joensuu, Finland, the
* Image Recognition Lab of the University of Koblenz, Germany, and the
* Laboratory of Information Processing of the Lappeenranta University of Technology, Finland,
organise an Intensive Programme on Computer Vision (IPCV'02), in Koblenz, Germany, from July 21st to August 2th 2002. The courses are intended for students and young researchers from the participating universities with a background in Computer Vision. The training includes exercises in small groups of 2 - 4 students.

IPCV '02 continues a series of summer schools:

IPCV '96 in Koblenz
IPCV '98 in Granada, Spain, and
IPCV '00 in Lappeenranta, Finland.

Certificates:

Modalities for a certificate of participation:

1. active participation in exercises and labs (attendance compulsory)
2. handling of the homework, and
3. presentation of the homework

Training:

On the first day we shall present several programming exercises in areas of CV for small groups of 2 - 4 students each. Those exercises should lead to executable programs that shall be presented by the groups on the final day in a session "Discussion".

Location:

Location of IPCV'02 is the campus of the University of Koblenz. You can get a map of the campus here.
Here you can find a map of Koblenz with the main locations of the IPCV (~289kb). The University, the Station and two booked hotels are marked with red circles.
The registration is on Monday, July 22nd, 9.00-10.00, in Room B325. All lectures take place in building E, room E 011. The exercises take place in the computer labs of building A.

Social Events:

We're planning to have two social events together with the participants from Finland, France, and Germany.

Wednesday 24th July: BBQ

The first social event will be on July, 24th, at the
    barbecue place of the hotel 'Sporthafen'
    Am Gülser Bootshaafen 31
    56072 Koblenz - Güls
(That is between Koblenz-Güls and Winningen direct behind Güls.)

We will meet at 18.45 at the lecture hall of IPCV and walk together along the banks of the River Mosel to the BBQ spot at the hotel 'Sporthafen' in Güls. (A walk of 45 minutes.)

Between 23.oo and 24.oo a bus will pick us up and transfer us to different places, say one stop at the University and 3 stops in the center of Koblenz according to your whishes. People at the Hotel Kreuter in Güls should walk, as the distance from the BBQ to Kreuter is minimal.

So, DO NOT COME BY CAR. Better enjoy the drinks.

All meals and drinks are free due to a donation of the companies:

Because of our planning it is necessary, that german students apply for this social event at
Frau Nick, Room B 324,
until July, 17th and deposit a security guarantee of Euro 2,50 there, which will be paid back at participation. (We suppose that all participants of Finnland and France will take part - so an application of them is not necessary.)

Wednesday 31th July: Hike

Canceled because of the bad weather.

Accomodation:

We can make some reservations in:

a nice hotel (500 meters from the location of IPCV'02) for EUR 30 a night, including breakfast, for a bed in a double-bed room,
in a hotel with a 15 min walk to the university for 25 EUR a night including breakfast, and

There is a refectory on the campus and several restaurants are nearby for lunch.
