Two open PhD positions

Currently, we have two open fully funded PhD positions (3 years, 100%, EG 13): official job posting (German)

Our research group focuses on methods and problems at the intersection of probabilistic and algorithmic sensor data processing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, particularly for applications in mobile robotics and automation. Current research focuses and topics include, for example: Visual navigation in challenging and changing environments, Vector Symbolic Architectures / Hyperdimensional Computing, Time-series analysis, Mobile manipulation, Robot learning, Algorithmic problems in the context of various visual imaging methods (event cameras, hyperspectral cameras, night vision, …), Camera-based 4D reconstruction of dynamic scenes (3D + time).

Your responsibilities will include

  • Conducting research and publishing scientific work in the research areas of the group
  • Contributing to teaching and supervising student research projects (Bachelor’s and Master’s theses)
  • Contributing to the general operational tasks and projects of the professorship

Your Profile

You have

  • Successfully completed a university degree or equivalent higher-education qualification (excluding a Bachelor’s degree) in computer vision, computer science, mathematics, or a related field
  • Prior knowledge of and a demonstrated interest in the research areas of the professorship
  • A structured and independent approach to work, initiative, and the ability to work effectively in a team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both German and English

In principle, you can include anything here that might convince us that you have the drive and talent to successfully complete a PhD.
    • Particularly helpful prior experience lies in the areas of robotics, image and sensor data processing (all kinds of camareas, LiDAR, IMU, GNSS, ...), machine learning (including frameworks such as PyTorch), mathematics (especially probability theory, optimization, and algebra), and software development/programming. Practical experience with AI tools (such as Claude Code etc.) is also useful.
