The University of Koblenz is expanding its scientific curriculum with the new innovative Master’s degree program Life Science (M. Sc.). With its planned launch in the winter semester 2026/27, the university is sending a strong signal for the further development of education in the field of Life Science in Rhineland-Palatinate and is creating, for the first time, a specialized program at the interface of chemistry and biology with a special focus on bioanalytical methods. The new research-oriented program is aimed at graduates of scientific Bachelor’s degree programs who want to understand biological processes at the molecular level, apply innovative analytical methods, and actively contribute to solutions for key challenges of our time — ranging from biomedical issues and biotechnological innovations to environmental topics.
“With the new Master’s degree program “Life Science”, we created a study program at the University of Koblenz that combines current scientific research with concrete societal challenges of the future. Our students learn to understand biological systems at the molecular level and to investigate them using state-of-the-art analytical methods. This qualifies them for demanding positions in science, industry, and research — right here in the region,” explain Prof. Dr. Marie-T. Hopp and Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Imhof, who are responsible for the new Master’s degree program.
The program focuses on the two specialization areas “Molecular and Biomedical Life Science” and “Environmental Life Science”. These are complemented by intensive experimental training using modern bioanalytical methods, interdisciplinary laboratory projects, and independent research practice. Students thereby acquire exactly the skills that are increasingly in demand in science, industry, biotechnology, and environmental analytics. One particular advantage: the new Master’s program offers students of the Bachelor’s program “Angewandte Naturwissenschaften” (B.Sc.) with a chosen specialization in chemistry/biology a perfectly aligned consecutive Master’s degree program at the University of Koblenz for the first time.
The Master’s degree program has no admission restrictions.
