Dissertation and Habilitation

The doctoral programme is aimed at outstanding diploma and master's graduates. The doctorate is intended to demonstrate a special scientific qualification. The Department of Computer Science awards two different doctoral degrees: the Doctor of Natural Sciences (Dr. rer. nat.) for research related to computer science and the Doctor of Economic and Social Sciences (Dr. rer. pol.) for research related to management.

With the habilitation, academics prove that they can independently represent a subject in research and teaching.

Research

Our special feature lies in our broad and closely interlinked spectrum: Core Informatics, Computational Visualistics, Software Engineering, Web & Data Science, Business Informatics and Digital Business Management are institutionalized in a joint department.

This opens up interdisciplinary and multi-perspective approaches to computer science: “Data Intelligence” is our primary and overarching profile topic. It stands for the combination of data and artificial intelligence to support ever new applications.

Institutes and People

The two focal points of computational visualistics are the computer and the visual; we deal with these in research and teaching as well as in practical applications in our laboratories. At the Institute for Computational Visualistics, research is conducted on topics such as image generation, image comprehension and natural language artificial intelligence.
