Research Lab
Research Lab - AI in Enterprise Architecture
Organisation
- Study programs: Master of Science: E-Government, Information Systems, Computer Science, Web and Data Science
- Schedule: The kick-off meeting of the research lab will be organised once at least 6 people are registered in Klips. Regular formal meetings will take place every two to three weeks.
- Registration in Klips: is currently open
Background
Generative AI tools are diffusing into every domain of work and personal life. Enterprise Architecture is a helpful concept to structure and understand strategic decision making for overall IT investments in enterprises, no matter whether these legal entities are acting in the public or private sectors. The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) is one of the frameworks comprehensively guiding enterprises in this path. While the TOGAF framework requires substantial human skills, genAI tools also evolve to support or even take over automatic steps to execute EA tasks along the ADM of TOGAF.
Research Objectives and Tasks
The research lab aims to investigate how genAI tools, and which tools in particular, as well as how prompt engineering can support the development of enterprise architectures along the TOGAF framework. The work shall contribute also to update the EA lectures of our master study programs of the Faculty.
The following works are to be conducted as part of the research lab:
- Clearly define the objectives of the research lab
- Conduct systematic literature analysis to investigate the status of research on the use of genAI and prompt engineering in the scope of EA development
- Investigate existing genAI tools that can support the ADM steps and EA governance functions along TOGAF
- Develop a case study and appropriate prompts for the EA lectures
- Document the results in a project handbook
- Regular presentations along the execution of the research lab and final presentation
- (optional) develop a scientific paper out of the research
Requirements for Participation
Mandatory knowledge and skills on TOGAF: Successfully passed the module in the summer term
Methodical skills: Knowledge of methods such as Design Science Research, Systematic Literature Analysis, enterprise architecture & TOGAF, and case study research.
Modelling skills: Knowledge of modelling tools and modelling notations along enterprise architecture
AI skills: Basic knowledge on generative AI techniques and prompt engineering, and genuine interest in generative AI tools beyond software engineering
Project management and soft skills for presentation, documentation, teamwork
Very good communication skills in English (written and oral).
Your Benefit
As part of the research lab, students learn about genAI tools and the status of research and practice in genAI in the scope of enterprise architeture development
