As part of the Future Day 2026 at the University of Koblenz, the Department of Computer Science Didactics was represented with the workshop "Tech meets Textile: Programmed Fabric Prints". The workshop was part of the programme of the Ada Lovelace project location Koblenz and one of a total of twelve workshops offered.
The fully booked workshop showed 12 participants from grades 7 and 8 how programming and fabric design can be creatively combined. Using simple programming commands, they developed their own figures, patterns and designs, which were then cut out with a vinyl cutter and transferred to fabric bags. At the end, the participants were able to take their customised fabric bags home with them.
The feedback was consistently positive: even though some found it a little complicated, everyone was satisfied and enjoyed experiencing Computer Sciences in a creative and practical way.
