Final Theses

Overview

The final theses in the Smart Data research group are usually not pure literature theses but include the development of small prototypes or the collection and evaluation of data. Below you will find a list of suggested topics. It is also possible to submit your own topic suggestions, as long as they can be assigned to one of the following subject areas:

  • Sensors and Internet-of-Things (LoRa, etc.)

  • Cloud architectures (IT infrastructures, virtualisation, orchestration, etc.)

  • Data management and data analytics

Please refrain from enquiries that cannot be assigned to any of the areas mentioned.

Application

Please proceed as follows when submitting an application for the supervision of a final thesis:

  1. Please send an e-mail to the respective supervisor who is responsible for your topic.

  2. Briefly explain your motivation for your chosen topic.

  3. Attach an extract of your previous coursework to your e-mail so that we can see which subject, disciplines you have successfully completed.

  4. Indicate the date on which you would like to write the final thesis (from/to).

We will then be happy to explain the detailed terms of reference to you in a personal meeting. The condition for supervision is the acceptance of an exposé written by you. You will receive the necessary assistance from your chosen supervisor.

Exposé

For all final theses, an exposé according to the template (see below) must be used before starting the work. Then send this synopsis to your supervisor for further approval.

The synopsis is divided into the sections "Motivation of the thesis", "Formulation of objectives" and "Methodological approach". The exposé should already include several literature sources, especially in the motivation section, and consist of 1-2 pages of text in total.
