Gender equality measures endeavour to take effect at as many structural levels as possible. As one of the core tasks of all universities, the focus is also on research. This field of gender equality work in particular is characterised by a somewhat complementary approach: on the one hand, the funding of gender-related research is intended to create and transfer knowledge about the conditions and causes of inequality, while on the other hand, gender equality measures focus on supporting groups that are underrepresented in research (in terms of their gender). Recent studies from the English-speaking world in connection with the coronavirus pandemic show that the latter are generally women: they demonstrate that the number of scientific publications by female academics has fallen sharply, while their male colleagues have actually seen an increase.
A list of specific projects and measures in the field of research can be found in the following section.
The interdisciplinary and international Klara Marie Faßbinder visiting professorship for Women's and Gender Studies Rhineland-Palatinate has been funded by the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Education, Academic Affairs, Youth and Culture since 2001.
It is filled every semester by an internationally renowned scientist and rotates between the universities in Rhineland-Palatinate. So far, female academics from a wide range of disciplines from Europe and America have accepted the visiting professorship.
The visiting professorship will be based at the University of Koblenz in the winter semester 2023/24.
