For internships in international organisations and EU institutions

You have already dealt with international topics during your studies and would like to complete an internship in international administration? The Carlo Schmid Programme is run by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in cooperation with the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes) and the Mercator Foundation and is mainly funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and also supported by the Mercator Foundation.

Programme description

Applications are open to German students and graduates of all subjects who have completed a full-time internship in EU institutions, the UN system, the Bretton Woods organisations, NATO, OSCE or similar (programme line A).

Alternatively, it is possible to apply for one or two of the internships advertised on the DAAD website (Programme Line B).

Duration of funding

For Programme Line A, the duration of the internship funding is between three and six months, for Programme Line B four to ten months. Please note that funding is not possible in the summer months of July and August.

Scholarship benefits

  • a monthly scholarship instalment, which depends on the respective host country

  • a travel allowance, the amount of which also depends on the host country

  • Health, accident and personal liability insurance benefits

  • Subsidy for conference and business trips as well as language course participation

Application

Applications are initially submitted online via the DAAD portal. The application process includes an obligatory one-day selection meeting in Bonn. The internships normally start in September.
