Poster presentations are a great opportunity for communicating your work and networking with other scientists in your field and beyond. For this, you need a memorable and visually appealing poster that encourages your audience to take a closer look at it and engage in conversation with you. Even though a well-designed poster can stand on its own, your oral presentation is essential to make the content fully understandable and to place the poster in the context of your scientific career, your research interests, and your future career development.

In this workshop, you will learn how to present your poster in English in a compelling and professional manner and how to interact effectively with your audience. The following topics are planned in particular:

  • creating a scientific poster based on your own research results
  • purpose, message and story of your poster
  • structure, layout and visual presentation of your poster
  • pitching your poster so that it appeals to interested parties
  • presenting your poster to a scientific audience – communication, stylistic devices and body language
  • adapting your presentation to the target audience
  • anticipating questions and knowing how to deal with them

The following methods are used:

  • input by trainer
  • interactive exercises with the goal of learning from each other and with each other in individual and small group work
  • “hands-on” work on your previous or started poster
  • simulation of poster presentations with and without challenging questions and disturbances
  • feedback

Please bring a poster on your laptop to the workshop for practising and for the simulation.
