The university offers target group-specific teaching and learning formats on the topic of AI. These are developed and offered both within the university and via partners such as the Virtual Campus Rhineland-Palatinate (VCRP) or the AI Campus.

Learning path "Using AI constructively in teaching" for lecturers (Interdisciplinary Centre for Teaching)

The learning path "Using AI constructively in teaching" is aimed at all lecturers at our university. The learning path consists of impulse workshops and in-depth workshops and was designed by the Interdisciplinary Centre for Teaching based on the European DigCompEdu competence framework. The learning path offers a changing, target group-orientated range of courses that address current topics and lecturers' needs.

Self-study course "Generative AI in the university context" for lecturers (KI-Campus)

The course provides basic knowledge in the field of generative AI for lecturers at universities. The course focuses on the technical foundations of this technology, ethical issues and the legal framework in order to promote responsible and informed behaviour in the field of education. It also deals with university-specific topics relating to the use of generative AI tools.

Self-study course "AI Essentials" for students (Interdisciplinary Career and Study Centre)

In this self-study course, you will discover the basics of AI - from the most important concepts such as algorithms and neural networks to real-life application examples. Ethical issues are also addressed.

Self-study course "Digital Driving Licence" for students (Interdisciplinary Career and Study Centre)

In this course, you have the opportunity to complete a digital driving licence, which includes a Focus module AI which covers six topics: devices, the Internet, Communication, the world of data, security and everyday technology.

Changing range of workshops offered by the Skills Academy for students (Interdisciplinary Career and Study Centre)

The modules of the Skills Academy Regular workshops related to the topic of AI offered. Questions such as: How does AI support me when writing term papers? How can AI tools help me in the application process? How does AI reproduce social prejudices?

The AI Hub is aimed at students, lecturers and researchers from all disciplines at the University of Koblenz. It offers a combination of basic introductions to AI applications and formats for critical reflection on ethical, social and safety aspects. The programme includes information, exchange and support formats that promote skills development and networking within the university.

AI knowledge for researchers and science managers (Interdisciplinary Centre for Research, Graduate Support and Human Resource Development)

Every term, the Interdisciplinary Centre for Research, Graduate Support and Human Resource Development offers a range of courses on the topic of AI that varies in number and subject matter. The programme covers the use of AI in everyday academic life and in science management.

Target group: Doctoral candidates, doctoral students, postdocs, professors, academic managers, academic staff
Duration: depending on the event format
Proof: Certificate of attendance, individual workshops can also be credited towards Interdisciplinary Centre for Research, Graduate Support and Human Resource Development certificates

Learning path "AI competence" for students, lecturers, researchers & administration (VCRP)

The course provides basic knowledge about artificial intelligence, its possible applications and challenges in the education sector. It provides a compact, practical overview of AI system types, ethical and legal framework conditions (with reference to the EU AI Act) and data protection aspects. The module is supplemented by practice-oriented examples from the higher education sector, built-in reflection questions and optional specialisations for different target groups from the higher education sector. A special focus is placed on EDU-KI-RLP.

Target group: Students, lecturers, researchers and administration
Duration: 100 minutes (self-paced course)
Proof: A certificate is issued upon successful completion of the course and the final test.
Note: In module 5, topics from the areas of study, teaching, research or administration can be selected.

Self-study course "AI competences in university administration" (KI-Campus)

This e-learning course offers a compact, practical introduction to the use of artificial intelligence in university administration. It teaches the basics of generative AI tools, highlights typical challenges, risks and legal and ethical requirements and explains how administrative processes can be organised more efficiently. It also presents methodological approaches and workflows for using AI responsibly and effectively.

Note on AI literacy

According to the European AI Regulation, the acquisition of AI literacy is mandatory for the operation and use of AI tools. The University of Koblenz takes measures, including the provision of training, information and counselling services, to ensure the AI literacy of its members and affiliates to the best of its ability. The assessment of whether there is a sufficient level of AI competence depends on the application scenario and is subject to individual examination.
