Social pedagogy

Social pedagogy

A warm welcome!

Social pedagogy within the field of child and youth welfare is a public infrastructure that supports young people as they grow up, as well as their families. It provides services regulated by the welfare state in the areas of supervision, upbringing and education, as well as protection, funding and participation. The aim is to strengthen individuals’ ability to lead self-determined lives and to live in a way that serves the common good, to open up new opportunities for action, and to promote participation in the general public. This takes place within the framework of the state’s responsibility to ensure equal opportunities in life and to reduce social inequalities. We aim to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of social pedagogy as a public agent of socialisation and a means of addressing subjective ways of living, which should be critically reflected upon and scrutinised in terms of the possibilities offered by social pedagogical practice.

Lay the foundations for confident, reflective and methodologically sound practice in social pedagogy – particularly in areas where challenges are complex and decisions have far-reaching consequences.

Through a systematic, theory-led and research-based approach, you will learn to analyse structures, concepts and theories relating to education, upbringing and socialisation with a view to their socio-educational dimensions.
