Coding Sports - cSports

The doctoral project investigates the extent to which game-based learning environments can support the development of programming competencies. At the center of the project is the platform cSports, which enables students to control games through coding and is currently being developed in a project at Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt.

The guiding research question concerns the extent to which game-based learning approaches influence students’ flow experiences, knowledge acquisition, and self-efficacy beliefs in the context of learning to program.

The first study follows a mixed-methods approach. In an initial qualitative phase, group interviews are conducted to explore students’ needs and expectations regarding educational games. Subsequently, the developed learning game is tested by students, and quantitative data are collected through questionnaires.

The overall aim is to develop a nuanced understanding of the motivational effects of game-based learning platforms and, based on these findings, derive both scientific and practical implications for the use of game-based learning in school contexts.
