Inequality effects, disadvantages and marginalisation are the consequences of unprovable prejudices, stereotypes and role clichés, which themselves remain mostly unconscious and are reflected in invisible structures. This institutionalisation gives them a certain stability and makes them difficult to break down.
A first step towards fairer and more respectful treatment is therefore to expose the unconscious stereotypes that guide our thoughts and actions. University gender equality work, which focuses primarily on inequality within the framework of gender categories as part of its legal mandate, therefore begins in university teaching by training lecturers in gender-sensitive teaching on the one hand and enabling students to recognise and reflect on their ingrained ways of thinking from the outset by taking a gender-sensitive view of the learning content on the other. In this way - especially at a university that trains a large proportion of future teachers in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate - it also makes a contribution to social coexistence on an equal footing.
The Gender Studies certificate is an offer for all students of the University of Koblenz for an additional qualification in the field of Gender Studies. This additional qualification can be acquired alongside the degree programme. It is confirmed by the issue of a certificate. The certificate is designed as an interdisciplinary programme for students from all faculties. In addition to providing students with further education, the central aims of the programme are to raise the university's profile in the field of gender studies and to strengthen interdisciplinary exchange in teaching and research in this area.
