The University of Koblenz is Germany's youngest university – and at the same time has a long academic tradition. It has summed up its self-image in the phrase “thinking ahead.” This reflects the motivation and aspiration of all members of the university to constantly question the familiar and the known in order to gain new insights and be pioneers of holistic, interdisciplinary thinking. As the university in northern Rhineland-Palatinate, it sees itself as a driving force in the development of a vibrant economic and scientific region, while also maintaining an international profile and network.

The four departments

  • Educational Sciences
  • Philology / Cultural Studies
  • Mathematics / Natural Sciences
  • Computer Science

combine a broad range of subjects. This enables both disciplinary and interdisciplinary research and teaching. The departments are supported by interdisciplinary scientific centers.

Interdisciplinary and cross-institutional cooperation, as well as short distances on campus, characterize everyday university life. They enable active interdisciplinarity and continuous innovation in science. Four profile areas are uniquely linked: “Education,” “Computer Science,” “Culture and Communication,” and “Materials and Environment.” They shape research and teaching and provide important impetus for teacher training, which plays a central role at the university.
