ERASMUS+

ERASMUS+

ERASMUS+ is the European Union's programme for education, youth and sport. The aim of the ERASMUS+ programme is the academic and cultural exchange between students from Europe. In the process, both academic, linguistic as well as intercultural competences and skills are trained.

The University of Koblenz also successfully applied to participate in ERASMUS+ and signed bilateral, subject-related ERASMUS agreements with around 80 universities.

In December 2020, the then University of Koblenz-Landau was awarded the new ERASMUS Charter (ECHE 2021-2027). Together with the ERASMUS Declaration on Higher Education Policy 2021-2027, it forms the basis for all measures under the ERASMUS+ programme in the years 2021 to 2027.

Types of Mobility

Mobility for teaching purposes (STA - Teaching Assignments):

For teaching purposes, higher education staff from a German university with ECHE may be promoted to a receiving university with ECHE (outgoing mobility) as well as staff from another institution established in another participating country (incoming mobility) working in the labour market or in the fields of education, training or youth may be promoted to a German university with ECHE for teaching purposes.

Requirements

ERASMUS+ funding is possible for individual stays from 2 days to 2 funding months (60 days). Travel days are not taken into account when calculating the length of stay. The teaching mobility must comprise at least eight teaching hours in one week or a shorter period of time. For staff mobilities with partner countries (i.e. in addition to Europe), the minimum duration of the stay is 5 days.

The starting date of the funded period of the stay is the first day on which the participant must be present at the host institution. The end date is the last day on which the participant must be present at the host institution. The actual duration of the stay must be documented by a certificate from the host institution after the end of the stay.

Repeated funding is possible.

Staff mobility must take place in a programme country that is not the country of your home university (except for incoming mobility, please see below) and in a country which is not the main country of residence of the person concerned.

Participating programme countries

The following Programme Countries can fully participate in all activities of the ERASMUS+ Programme:

EU Member States:

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom.

Programme countries outside the EU:

Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Turkey.

Target group:

All employees of the University of Koblenz (You must be employed by the University of Koblenz and have a business travel permit. Please ensure that you have adequate travel health insurance, which also covers business trips) can participate in ERASMUS+ mobility. This also includes, in particular, staff in the University's administrative institutions. Please note: From now on, only a maximum of three staff mobilities per person can be approved per year. In justified exceptional cases that demonstrate the clear added value of the mobility for the university as a whole, an additional mobility may be approved.

Formats for further education

Please note: Financial support for continuing education within the framework of ERASMUS+ is limited to two weeks.

  • Study visits/hosits, e.g. university staff visit a partner university

  • Visit to an International Week or Partner Days at a partner higher education institution

  • Please note: Independent application to the partner university is necessary!

  • Attendance of an organised English language course, if the need for English language skills is directly related to the job performed at the workplace is also of importance. Please note: Independent application to the course provider is required!

  • Attendance of a language course other than English, provided the need for language skills is directly related to the job performed at the workplace.

  • job shadowing, e.g. university staff visiting a company

  • Attendance of other workshops

  • other further training measures by arrangement

Within the framework of ERASMUS+ STT, funding for stays for research purposes is not possible. However, in combination with a teaching placement, research for teaching purposes can take place within the framework of ERASMUS+.

Subsistence costs are calculated on the basis of daily rates. The mobility programme of the person must show that activities related to the mobility programme took place to be eligible for funding. Evidence in the form of a certificate issued by the host university/company at the end of the stay stating the beginning and end of the stay, including the number of teaching hours, if applicable, is decisive.

CO2 Compensation

Background: Since 2023, CO2 compensation payments must be made for all business-related air travel. The compensation payments were decided by the Ministry of Science and Health and will benefit the Rhineland-Palatinate Foundation "Natur und Umwelt".

This also applies to staff mobilities funded through the ERASMUS+ programme.

Implementation for ERASMUS+ staff mobilities:

Within Europe: For staff mobilities within Europe, the compensation payments are paid directly from the ERASMUS+ grant. For this purpose, the corresponding compensation payment will be retained by the International Relations Office when the second funding instalment is paid (after the mobility).

Outside Europe: For staff mobilities outside Europe, the compensation payments are financially supported by the International Relations Office. You will receive a grant of up to 100€ or 50% of the compensation payments. The remaining part will also be paid directly by the ERASMUS+ grant and retained by the International Relations Office when the second funding instalment is paid (after the mobility).

Example:

Staff mobility to Rwanda: outward and return flight with one change of plane each time -> accruing compensation payments of 200€.

The International Relations Office subsidises the compensation payments with 100€, the remaining 100€ must be financed from the grant.

Staff mobility to South Africa: both flights as direct flights -> compensation payments of 100€ are incurred

The International Relations Office subsidises the compensation payments with 50€, the remaining 50€ must be financed from the grant.
