Internships abroad for student teachers

With funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the DAAD supports student teachers in their stays abroad and higher education institutions in the internationalisation of teacher training courses in the comprehensive overall programme "Lehramt.International".

Programme description

Lehramt.International consists of two different funding lines:

Funding line 1 is aimed at student teachers of all subject combinations and all types of schools. Here, self-organised internships abroad lasting 1-6 months at school institutions abroad are funded with a scholarship. The internship can be either a mandatory internship or a voluntary internship.

Applications are open to teacher training students at German universities of all subject combinations and all types of schools from the first semester of a teacher training course (Bachelor's, Master's, state examination).

Funding line 2 is aimed at graduates of teaching-related subjects who have a Master's degree or are between the 1st and 2nd state examinations. In this funding line, the internship must last at least 3 and no more than 12 months.

Duration of funding

Funding line 1: 1-6 months

Funding line 2: 3-12 months

The scholarship cannot be extended.

Scholarship benefits

The scholarship includes the following benefits:

  • a monthly scholarship instalment, depending on the host country

  • Travel allowance, depending on the host country

  • Health, accident and personal liability insurance benefits

Application

Applications are submitted directly via the DAAD portal. There are four application rounds per year.
