Requirements for a doctorate at the University of Koblenz
The central requirement for a doctorate is a successfully completed academic university degree (Master's or equivalent university degree) in the relevant subject area. Special provisions apply for some degrees (e.g. Bachelor, HAW/FH diploma, teacher training programmes where applicable). You can find a complete overview of the requirements for doctorates in the Doctoral degree regulations of the responsible faculty. Please note that international degrees must first be checked and recognised by the relevant faculty. Further information is available at the International Relations Office ready for you.
If you are planning to do a doctorate, please contact the relevant dean's office or the academic staff there directly. Supervisors authorised to award doctorates are usually universtiy teaching staff. The doctoral committee of the relevant faculty is responsible for the entire doctoral procedure, including acceptance as a PhD candidate and admission to the doctoral examination.
The Interdisciplinary research, graduate support and personnel development centre (Interdisciplinary Centre for Research Graduate Support and Human Resource Development) advises on general questions relating to doctorates and supports the various phases of an academic career with a tailored range of services.
Application for immatriculation for a doctorate
You can enrol as a PhD candidate. Please send your application for doctorate immatriculation to theStudent Registrar's Office. The basis for enrolment is a written confirmation from the supervisor (confirmation of supervision), which you enclose with the application. There are no tuition fees associated with immatriculation for a doctorate, you only pay the semester fee.
Immatriculation for doctoral studies is optional in most doctoral programmes and does not replace official acceptance as a PhD candidate by the faculty concerned. The responsibility for the procedure and the formal confirmation of your doctorate lies with the respective faculty.
