Prospective Doctoral Candidates

We offer you personal counselling sessions on topics such as admission requirements, requirements and design of the qualification phase, finding a supervisor and funding options. Also, we accompany you during the decision-making process.

Our university specialises in teacher training – which is why we provide information on the topic of "Teaching and Doctorate". In addition to personal counselling sessions for student teachers, trainee teachers and teachers, we also regularly offer an information event in cooperation with the Zentrum für Lehrkräftebildung. We are happy to support you in your decision for or against a doctorate.

Our certificate PROMOtivaTION – Mein Weg in die Promotion prepares you for your doctoral studies in the best possible way. It certifies that you have intensively considered the option of a doctorate and have set the initial course for this. You will gain insights into the field of science and its working methods, such as the professional use of AI tools. You can use the certificate to proactively support the further course of your doctorate, for example when contacting your potential supervisor, in your CV or for applications. To do this, attend one event per module.

We recommend that you plan a period of one to two terms to acquire the certificate; this applies to course attendance from the 2020/21 winter semester onwards.

Students of the interdisciplinary Master's programme (“Interdisziplinärer Master”), who are interested in pursuing an academic career can have our events for prospective doctoral candidates credited towards the “Profiling for Science and Practice” module (Modul “Profilbildung für Wissenschaft und Praxis”) Proven IFGPZ offerings for prospective doctoral candidates can be selected for modules 1.1 and 1.3.

The mentoring programme ment_Master is aimed at female Master's students and graduates (with a Master's or comparable university degree). Through various programme elements, it supports the targeted examination of an interest in a doctorate and accompanies the transition to the next academic qualification phase.

This mentoring programme is funded by the Women Professors Programme III.

NaWi - For Female (Early Career) Researchers and W1 Professors supports female scientists between and within qualification levels with a total of six funding lines. The programme promotes the visibility and networking of the funded women within the scientific community and thus makes an important contribution to equal opportunities and increasing the proportion of women at the upper career levels in academia.

If you have decided to do a doctorate at the University of Koblenz, you can apply for the "NaWi Scholarship". This can be requested as a transition scholarship for the change-over to the doctoral phase.
