W1 Professors

We offer personal counselling sessions to all W1 professors. Would you like to enquire about our services, are you looking for specific contact persons and responsible offices at the university or would you like information on the Leadership PASS – Engaging, Researching, Leading & Supervising? We are happy to support you throughout the entire W1 professorship phase and are available to answer any further questions you may have. Please make an appointment for all types of enquiries and concerns with Johanna Hoffmann.

We are also available as a confidential point of contact for conflicts during qualification phases after graduation – including during the period of a junior professorship. Contact details, further information and materials can be found here.

For the processing of a specific request, we will organise an individual coaching for up to three hours that addresses your current needs. Classic topics can be, for example

• Planning the W1 professorship
• Networking and visibility of your own research
• Communication and negotiation skills for various contexts (e. g. committees, care context)
• Appointment procedure (including application and concept paper)

The topics of team development, communication or conflict management pose particular challenges for teams. Managers therefore have the opportunity to discuss related issues as part of a one-off Team coaching together with their team.

You can also apply for a lectureship if you are preparing a proposal for external funding (in all programmes) to the German Research Foundation (DFG).

The event concept for W1 and first appointed W2/W3 professors is based on the modules developed specifically for this career stage and target group. Among other things, the evaluation criteria of the university's tenure statutes serve as a basis, which are supplemented with elements of human resources development and research support:

Workshops and coaching sessions to support you in working on academic tasks

Workshops and coaching sessions focussing on your leadership skills and the supervision of scientists in early career stages

Workshops and coaching sessions that focus on your resource and self-management as well as self-marketing and your work-life balance issues

In addition to receiving individual certificates of attendance for the events attended, there is also the option of acquiring the Leadership PASS – Engagieren, Forschen, Führen & Betreuen: The Leadership PASS as a certificate makes the conscious and structured examination of relevant topics visible. The content focuses on the area of leadership, which can range from personnel responsibility, project management, support situations, communication and dialogue skills through to committee work. This also includes cross-cutting themes of particular relevance to research and academia, such as artificial intelligence.

The free combination options allow you to put together an individual portfolio that you can tailor to your personal goals. This will also support you in your (new) academic leadership role at the University of Koblenz.

Leadership PASS and ment_Prof in comparison

Leadership PASS and mentoring ment_Prof are two offers for W1 and first appointed W2/W3 professors that build on the event programme. If you decide to take part in the Leadership PASS and/or the mentoring ment_Prof at a later date, your previous participation can be recognised.
If you have to choose between the Leadership PASS certificate and the mentoring certificate ment_Prof due to time constraints, we have summarised the differences for you to help you decide.
It is also possible for you to take advantage of both programmes and combine them. In this case, you will have to take part in a total of four coaching sessions and three events. If you would like to take advantage of this option, please contact us.

The Career Fund offers postdoctoral researchers financial support to further develop research ideas and to prepare and implement proposals for external funding. Applications from W1 professors can be considered if corresponding funds are available.

Mentoring ment_Prof offers you a structured programme to optimise your academic career in line with your potential and goals. As a W1 Professor, you can thus support your career stage individually and as a first appointed W2/W3 professor, you can proactively accompany the start of your professorship.

You will be accompanied by (external) scientists from your scientific community as a mentor in your upcoming career steps and supported by the IFGPZ with a supplementary programme.

The CZS STEM-Forum promotes interdisciplinarity in the STEM faculties with various formats and networks scientists with other research groups at the University of Koblenz and beyond. It is aimed at (natural) scientists at all career levels who are interested in or conduct interdisciplinary research.

NaWi – For Female (Early Career) Researchers and W1 Professors supports female scientists between and within qualification levels with a total of six funding lines. The programme promotes the visibility and networking of the funded women within the scientific community and thus makes an important contribution to equal opportunities and increasing the proportion of women at the upper career levels in academia.

As a W1 Professor who is not funded through the WISNA programme, you have the opportunity to receive a student assistant to support your research and/or publication activities for a maximum of one year through NaWi's "Research with Student Assistant" funding.
